The Canadian Transportation Safety Board (TSB) is investigating a derailment of a freight train that occurred in the Village of Chaplin, about 100 kilometres west of Moose Jaw.

The train derailed near the village in the morning of Jan. 16. The TSB deployed a team to the region and said it would provide updates when they become available.

Chaplin is located 86 kilometres west of The Friendly City on Highway 1.

The TSB is an independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline, and rail transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
