Two long-time members of the Moose Jaw Fire Department are calling it a career.
On June 30 George Paterson is set to retire, while Dale Nash will retire as of July 1. Paterson has been with the MJFD for almost 35 years, while Nash has been with the department for 32 years.
George Paterson was hired as a firefighter on August 1, 1984. He was promoted to Lieutenant on September 15, 2012, to captain on May 1, 2016 and will retire as an Acting Assistant Chief.
On December 3, 1999 Paterson was awarded the Governor General’s Award – the Medal of Bravery, for performing a rescue on May 11, 1997. Paterson helped free a man who was pinned in a burning tractor.
Dale Nash was hired on May 19, 1987. He was promoted to Lieutenant on May 1, 2016 and then to his current position as Captain on October 1, 2016.
“Throughout his career Dale has been an absolute pleasure to work with,” Fire Chief Rod Montgomery said in a press release. “His friendliness, professionalism and easygoing personality made him a favorite on any shift he worked on.”
The Moose Jaw Fire Department and the City of Moose Jaw thank George and Dale for their many years of service and wish both men all the best in retirement.
