The Moose Jaw U13 AA Warriors took one on the chin against the Yorkton Terriers in Sask AA Hockey League action on Saturday afternoon, dropping an 8-1 decision at the Bert Hunt Arena.
Not even 24 hours later, the two teams found themselves in a back-and-forth battle in Yorkton that saw the visitors rally late to secure a 5-5 tie.
Things didn’t go quite as well for the U15 AA Warriors, as they fell 7-1 and 4-2 to the Regina Pat Blues in a pair of league contests.
The U13 Warriors improved to 0-3-2 with the tie and sit in sixth place in the South Sask standings; the U15 Warriors dropped to 1-4-0 and are ninth in the 12-team South Sask division.
Yorkton 8, U13 Warriors 1It was just one of those games for the Warriors in their weekend opener -- Yorkton scored five goals in the span of 8:50 to close out the first period, taking a 6-1 lead out of the opening frame.
Elijah McFadden scored the only goal for Moose Jaw, who trailed 7-1 through two.
Ben Barth went the distance in goal for the Warriors.
U13 Warriors 5, Yorkton 5Yorkton would take a 5-3 lead 2:25 into the third period, but the Warriors wouldn’t go quietly.
Carter Hudyma scored on the power play with 6:23 to go in the game and would follow with the game-tying goal with 30 seconds on the clock to secure the single point.
Brodyn Pladson, Austin Smith and Colton Flanagan also scored for the Warriors, who trailed 1-0 after the first and 4-3 through two. Ryan Gibbs added two assists.
Grayson Hrenyk turned aside 28 shots in the Warriors net.
Moose Jaw is back in action Dec. 4 in Estevan and Dec. 5 when they host the Bruins.
Pat Blues 7, U15 Warriors 1Regina did all their damage in the first two periods, taking a 3-0 lead out of the first and leading 7-1 through two.
Chance Cole scored the first goal of the game with 2:32 gone, but that would be the last good news for the local squad on the night.
Warriors goaltender Casson Silbernagel faced 50 shots.
Pat Blues 4, U15 Warriors 2Things didn’t look good early in the rematch the following afternoon, as Regina took a 3-0 lead out of the first period.
The Warriors were able to get on track in the second, though, as Bryce Boughen scored on the power play 6:58 in and was followed just over six minutes later by Luc Fafard with another man-advantage marker.
That would be as close as they’d get, though, as Regina added an insurance goal in the third.
Silbernagel had another busy night, turning aside 41 shots in taking the loss.
The Warriors are back in action Saturday, Nov. 28 when they host the Notre Dame U15 Hounds before traveling to Wilcox for the rematch on Sunday, Nov. 29.
