With the way things have gone for the Moose Jaw Warriors and goaltender Carl Tetachuk over the last month, it seemed only fitting that the Western Hockey League would come calling with a major award.
The WHL announced Tuesday that Tetachuk had been named the league’s Goaltender of the Month for February after posting a 4-2-0-1 record through the month, including a 1.28 goals-against-average and .952 save percentage alongside a pair of shutouts.
The first of Tetachuk’s two clean sheets came on Feb. 15 in a 1-0 shootout loss against his hometown Lethbridge Hurricanes, and he repeated the feat on Feb. 25 in a 7-0 win over the Swift Current Broncos.
Tetachuk currently leads the WHL in saves (1,178) and is ranked second among WHL netminders in minutes played (2,385) and third in save percentage (.915).
His 23 victories this season are one shy of his career-best, set during the 2018-19 season as a member of the Hurricanes.
So say that Tetachuk’s run of success has translated team-wide would be a bit of an understatement -- the Warriors have points in 13 of their last 16 games, with a 13-2-0-1 record over that span. The loss to the Saskatoon Blades on Feb. 27 marked only their second defeat in regulation dating all the way back to mid-January.
The Warriors are back in action on Friday night when they host the Prince Albert Raiders. Game time is 7 p.m. at Mosaic Place.
