Your guide to the long weekend for Aug 3-5

You will find lots of fun activities in and around Moose Jaw and area this long weekend. The following list highlights some events you won’t want to miss out on.

Homegrown Farmer’s Market

Shop local at the Homegrown Farmer’s Market this Saturday. As usual, the market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Langdon Crescent. You will find all kinds of tasty treats, homemade items, and fresh produce. Be mindful of restricted access, due to construction.

Queen City Ex

Head down to Regina for the final days of this year’s Queen City Ex. There will be lots to see and do, including the ever-popular rides, along with shows, food vendors, kid’s entertainment, games of chance, and more. Saturday night the Washboard Union will perform on the Great Western Stage, followed by Paul Brandt. On Sunday, the Regina Symphony Orchestra will hit the stage. Admission is $17 for adults and $10 for seniors and kids between the ages of 7 and 12. Kids under six get in for free. Ride passes are available for $25. Moose Jaw Miller Express vs. Weyburn

The Express will hit the field at Ross Wells on Saturday to take on the Weyburn Beavers. The team hopes to break the attendance record at Ross Wells for this game, so be sure to Pack the Park! The game starts at 7:05 p.m. 

On Sunday, the two teams will return to Ross Well for a double-header. The first game will start at 4:05 p.m. while the second contest will begin at 6:35. Be sure to get out and cheer on the team! Tickets for all games will be available at the door. 

Haunted Hike at Buffalo Pound

Spending the long weekend at the lake is always a great idea, and this weekend Buffalo Pound Provincial Park will have lots of fun activities to take in. This includes a special “haunted hike” on Sunday, with hikes starting at 8 and 10 p.m. As you head to the Nicolle homestead, you will hear plenty of local ghost stories. The walk will be about one hour in length. 

Nicolle Flats Homestead Picnic

This Monday you can take in an old-fashioned picnic! The first homestead picnic in many years will be held at Nicolle Flats at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park. There will be lots of fun activities, including free horse-drawn wagon rides. Grab a lawn chair and some water and head out for a fun afternoon! Saskatchewan Day at the WDM

Looking for something fun the whole family will enjoy this holiday Monday? Stop by the Western Development Museum. There will be a Saskatchewan Day scavenger hunt, along with crafts, and screenings of NFB films. Regular admission applies. Free for WDM members.
