You will find lots of fun activities in Moose Jaw this weekend. The following list highlights some events you won’t want to miss out on.
Opening Day of the Homegrown Market
Shop local this weekend, with the kick-off of the Moose Jaw Homegrown Farmer’s Market on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Langdon Crescent. This year will feature 20 new vendors, along with plenty of your returning favourites. A wide variety of items will be for sale, including fresh produce, jewelry, dog treats, beauty products, and baked goods. There will be something for everyone!
Tai Chi in Crescent Park
Relax and get some exercise in the great outdoors. The Moose Jaw Chinse Association and the Moose Jaw Public Library will be presenting Tai Chi in the Park. There is no cost to attend; simply meet in front of the library on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
Dance Fitness with Kyra Showcase
Dance Fitness with Kyra has moved to a new location at 244B River St. W. To celebrate, the studio will host a special event on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. A dance class will run from 1:30 to 2:15. An open house will follow. Participation in the class is by donation, with all proceeds going to Moose Jaw Families for Change. Refreshments will be available. Freshii and Supplement King will also be on site. Everyone is welcome!
Optimist All-Star Night
Spend the evening with two sports celebrities. The fifth annual Optimist All-Star Night will be held Saturday at the Cosmo Centre, beginning with cocktails at 6 p.m. Supper will start at 7 and the program will follow at 8. The special guests will be curling superstar Rachel Homan and former Roughrider Kory Sheets. Funds raised by the event will support the Friendly City Optimist Club and its local initiatives. SOAR for Cystic Fibrosis
K+S Potash Canada SOAR for Cystic Fibrosis will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at the municipal airport. Featuring performance artist Tenille Arts and aerobatics pilot Brett Handy. There will be cocktails, appetizers, dancing, and a grand prize trip for two to California will be awarded. The event is aligned with Cassidy’s Lemonade Stand. Tickets are $100 each. As of Thursday morning, tickets were still available. They can be purchased online.
MS Walk
Get out to support a great cause. The annual Saskatchewan Blue Cross MS Walk will be held at Sunningdale School on Sunday. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the 5 km walk starting at 10. Funds raised by the event will support the MS Society of Canada’s programs and services.
Pet Valu Walk for Guide Dogs
If you would rather walk with your furry friends, be sure to give the Walk for Guide Dogs a try. The event will be held on Sunday at Wellesley Park in Wakamow. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10. The event is wheelchair accessible and dog friendly. Funds will support the Lions Foundation, which provides guide dogs to those in need.
Tree of Memory Dedication
This weekend take pause to remember those we have lost. The annual Tree of Memory dedication will take place on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Crescent Park Amphitheatre. Music will be provided by Joya Johnston. A Tree of Memory will be dedicated honouring everyone Jones-Parkview Funeral Services has served from May 21, 2018 to May 20, 2019. All are welcome.
Community Association Meeting
Learn how to get involved and give back to your neighbourhood this weekend. A special community association meeting will be held at the Moose Jaw Public Library on Sunday at 2 p.m. All four community associations will be in attendance — Sunningdale/VLA/West Park, North West, Eastside, and South Hill. Volunteers are required to take over the Eastside Community Association. Stop by to find out what these groups do and how you can participate. Refreshments will be served.
