Saturday night was not one of those nights -- even if things looked exceptionally good in the early going.
The Saskatoon Blazers scored three times in a span of 2:21 late in the second period to erase a three-goal deficit and would go on to a 5-4 overtime victory in SMAAAHL action in Saskatoon.
The Warriors couldn’t have asked for a better start, as Jackson Allan and Liam Fitzpatrick scored the only goals of the first period, and Allan made it 3-0 5:50 into the second.
Things came apart at the 8:55 mark of the frame, though -- Riley Ashe scored Saskatoon’s first goal, followed by Roger McQueen 1:04 later and Tyler Phipps 35 seconds after that.
Just like that, a 3-3 draw.
Fitzpatrick saw to it things wouldn’t stay tied for long, scoring a little over a minute after Phipps’ goal to send the Warriors into the break with a 4-3 lead.
Liam Rodman tied things for the Blazers 4:57 into the third, and there things remained until Tyson Buczkowski brought things to an end with 1:31 remaining in overtime.
Allan and Fitzpatrick both had three-point nights, Daxin Peterson had a pair of assists.
Ethan Fechter got the start in goal and faced 34 shots, while Eric Kahl had 24 saves for the Blazers.
The Warriors fell to 16-8-0-1 with the loss, while Saskatoon improved to 17-4-0-1.
The Warriors are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Notre Dame to face the Hounds.
