Gedak, Kendel win ‘A’ side playoff berths at Moose Jaw SCT stop

Plenty of local rinks in action during Sask Curling Tour tournament this weekend
Former Moose Jaw competitor Brent Gedak and Saskatoon’s Brady Kendel earned the top two spots out of the ‘A’ side during the Moose Jaw Sask Curling Tour stop at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre on Friday.

Gedak opened with an 8-4 win over Saskatoon’s Rylan Kleiter before downing Estevan’s Shawn Meyer in the ‘A’ semifinal and Saskatoon’s Jason Jacobson 10-0 in the ‘A’ final – a contest that only lasted three ends after Gedak scored two in the first, two in the second and six in the third.

Kendel, meanwhile, downed former Moose Jaw competitor Carson Ackerman 8-1 in his opener, Regina’s Sam Wills 7-3 in the semi and Saskatoon’s Travis Tokarz 6-2 in their ‘A’ final.

The ‘B’ side saw Moose Jaw’s Brett Behm pick up an 8-6 win over Ackerman, 6-5 extra end win over Yorkton’s Kent Zuravloff before facing Moose Jaw’s Ben Gamble in one of two ‘B’ finals.

Gamble – who is coming off an SCT tournament win in Estevan last weekend and has already qualified for the SaskTel Tankard as a result – lost his opener 7-2 to Tokarz but rebounded with a 10-1 win over Saskatoon’s Cody Sutherland and 4-2 win over Meyer to reach the ‘B’ final.

Ackerman, meanwhile, stayed alive on the ‘C’ side with a 6-5 win over Sutherland and played Jacobson in for a spot in the playoff round Saturday night.

Action continues Sunday with the championship quarter-finals at 10:30 a.m., semifinals at 1:30 p.m. and the gold medal game at 4:30 p.m.
