High school basketball crowns Saskatchewan provincial boys champions at Hoopla 2025

Porcupine Plain, Saskatoon Christian, Regina Christian, Moose Jaw Central, Saskatoon Holy Cross all claim provincial titles

SASKATOON -- The Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association held their annual extravaganza of provincial championship basketball over the weekend in Saskatoon, with five boys teams claiming gold medals at Hoopla 2025

1a-boys-porcupine-plaine

In the 1A boys championship final, two-seed Porcupine Plain upset top-seed Preeceville 76-66. 

J.R. Antazo led the provincial champs with 27 points, while Kayden Wasylyk scored 23 and Gavin Henry added 13. Blake Descalchuk topped Preeceville with 16 points, Dhexy Paligan scored 15 and Porter George 10.

Porcupine Plain advanced to the gold medal game with a 92-81 win over Hafford, while Preeceville defeated Leask 70-61 in their semifinal.

Hafford defeated Leask 86-70 for bronze.

2a-boys-saskatoon-christian

The 2A boys championship saw three-seed Saskatoon Christian get hot at just the right time, taking a 95-56 win over two-seed Norquay in the semifinal and then downing top-seed St. Brieux 74-64 in the gold medal game. 

Nolan Vanderkooi led Saskatoon with 25 points in the title contest, Isaiah Rushton scored 18 and Jude Drisner 15. Kylan Brockman topped St. Brieux with 31 points, Jarret Hunt scored 14.

St. Brieux advanced to the final and narrowly avoided the upset with a 73-71 win over five-seed LCBI.

LCBI took a 74-69 win over Norquay to claim bronze.

3a-boys-regina-christian

The 3A boys championship featured another upset in the gold medal game, as two-seed Regina Christian defeated top-sed Clavet 94-84.

Osaze Evbuomwan had an outstanding game for Regina in the final scoring 35 points, while Carter Glaspell scored 22, Jakob Taylor 17 and William Cornish 11. Ty Randall had 25 for Clavet, Jesse Klinger 24 and Silas Robertson 19.

Neither semifinal was particularly close as Regina defeated six-seed Waldheim 80-58 and Clavet downed four-seed Oxbow 75-50.

Oxbow went on to win bronze with an 89-55 win over Waldheim.

4a-boys-central

The top-seed Central Cyclones survived a semifinal scare in their 4A boys opening game at Hoopla, but would take a 105-94 overtime win over five-seed Regina Harvest City and go on to defeat three-seed Regina Johnson 70-55 in the gold medal contest.

The win was Central’s fifth-straight provincial championship.

Gerritt Gulutzan and Chase Seaborn each had 17 points for the Cyclones in the final, Lei Delizo scored 16 and Keaton Belsher added 12. Jayden Zelionka had 20 points for Johnson, Colton Thompson 14 and Tarun Rathour 13.

Johnson defeated Regina Luther 72-61 in their semifinal. 

Harvest City took a 61-50 win over Luther for bronze.

5a-boys-holy-cross

The 5A boys final was an absolute barnburner, as Goloom Bein drained a buzzer beater to give two-seed Saskatoon Holy Cross a 93-91 win over top-seed Saskatoon Walter Murray.

Walter Murray had defeated Holy Cross in similar fashion to claim the city championship a week earlier.

Moe Osman led Holy Cross with 32 points, with Kian Tyson scoring 23, Raphael Mutungolo 16 and Bein 15. Zach Hawley topped Walter Murray with 35 points, Isak Larsen scored 15 and Nickolay Khivrich added 14.

Holy Cross advanced to the final with a 99-72 win over seven-seed Regina Campbell and 96-73 win over three-seed Regina Martin. Walter Murray booked their spot with a 110-60 win over eight-seed Swift Current and 94-80 win over five-seed Saskatoon St. Joseph.

Martin went on to win bronze with a 100-92 victory over St. Joseph while Regina Riffel won the consolation final 83-60 over Campbell.
