Moose Jaw Mustangs start strong on first weekend of South Sask Lacrosse League action

Moose Jaw teams win eight of 10 games across four age groups as league play kicks off in earnest

MOOSE JAW -- It’s safe to say it was an impressive showing for the Moose Jaw Mustangs on the first weekend of play in the South Sask Lacrosse League.

Moose Jaw teams won eight of 10 games across all four age divisions, with a good portion of their wins featuring an impressive amount of offence from the eventual victors.

Here’s a rundown of how things turned out for all five teams.

U11 Mustangs Black 15, Swift Current Rampage Rowdy 0

Moose Jaw scored six goals in the first period, another six in the second and would go on to post a shutout win.

Jaxon Fellinger and Sawyer Noga each had four goals and five points, while Luke De Jager had a hat trick and four points.

Nash Soper also picked up a hat trick, with James Eritz scoring their other goal. Drayson Koski had two assists.

U11 Mustangs Black 14, Swift Current Rampage Bruiser 1

It was more of the same in the Mustangs’ second game of the day at the Kinsmen Arena, this time with a four-goal first and 10-0 lead through two.

Soper led the way with four goals and five points, while Eritz had a hat trick and five points to go along with three goals and four points from Noga.

Trip Krauss scored twice, Fellinger and Eli Flannigan had one goal apiece.

Jace Kachmarski had Swift Current’s lone goal in the third period.

U11 Mustangs Red 7, Swift Current Rampage Bruiser 0

The Mustangs Red were right there alongside their Moose Jaw counterparts in finding success, scoring three goals in the second and third periods for the comfortable win.

Kenna Williams led the way with three goals and five points, Emerson Hlushko picked up a goal and two points.
Mikey Williams, Mason Thompson and Indie Bellefeuille all had single markers.

U11 Mustangs Red 12, Swift Current Rampage Rowdy 3

Things were close much of the game, as Moose Jaw took a 6-3 lead out of the first and led by the same score through two, but they’d pull away with six goals in the third.

Kenna Williams had another five-point game, this time scoring four, with Mikey Williams, Caleb Meadows and Ace Bellefeuille all scoring twice apiece.
Indie Bellefeuille and Hlusko had their other goals.

Jack Francouer, Mason Greco-Gonschior and Shane Kendall had Swift Current’s markers.

U13 Mustangs 1, Weyburn Security Thrashers 6

Weyburn built a 4-0 lead through the first two periods before scoring a pair in the third to secure the victory.

Kayden Howes had the lone goal for Moose Jaw.

Judd Vennard scored twice and had four points for the Thrashers, Gabe Sharpe scored twice. Maclean Hillstead and Felix Wawro also had single goals.

U13 Mustangs 3, Weyburn Young’s Equipment Thrashers 8

The two teams found themselves in a close game through two periods, sitting at a 3-3 tie after the first and Weyburn holding a 4-3 lead through two. 

Payton Pinel, Tanner Hart and Jaxton Duncan had Moose Jaw’s goals.

Cohen Baumgartner led the Thrashers with five goals and six points, Jep Furgason scored twice, Derk Pouteaux added a goal and assist.

U15 Mustangs 12, Swift Current 0

The Mustangs rolled from start to finish in Swift Current, leading 4-0 after the first and 9-0 through two.

Three players recorded hat tricks, with Ryder Seiferling finishing with six points, Connor Livingston four and Tatam Thue three.

Keegan Flanagan scored twice, Brodie Pilkington had a goal and three points.

U15 Mustangs 10, Swift Current 2

Livingston led the way with four goals and five points in the rematch, while Seiferling and Pilkington added a pair of markers each.

Flanagan and Thue each had a goal and two points, Isla Jackson added two assists.

Greyson Waiser and Josh Woods scored for the Rampage.

U17 Mustangs 5, Swift Current 2

The Rampage took a 1-0 lead out of the first period, but Moose Jaw poured in five goals in the second period to take control of the contest.

Chase Folk and Nixon Friesen each had a goal and assist for the Mustangs, Brett Bowerin, Hayden Tuer-Nidesh and Caiden Arnott all scored single goals.

Riley Millar and Diesel Paulhus scored for Swift Current.

U17 Mustangs 10, Swift Current 2

Things were much more comfortable for Moose Jaw in the rematch, as they took a 3-0 lead out of the first period and led 6-1 through two.

Bowerin, Tuer-Nidesh and Luke Turner all had two goals and three points, with Kashton Smith scoring once and also finishing with three points.

Arnott, Jake Arnold and Kyler Plasdon had Moose Jaw’s other goals, Folk picked up three assists.

Paulhus and Gage Smith had the goals for the Rampage.
