Rainouts taking toll on Miller Express schedule

Friday night contest with Weyburn pushed to Aug. 4 due to weather

A busy month of baseball is about to get that much more packed for the Moose Jaw Miller Express after the timely-yet-untimely weather this week.

While farmers in the southern part of the province are largely overjoyed with the sudden deluge of moisture in the area, the rain is far from conducive to baseball games and as a result the local Western Canadian Baseball League squad has seen a bunch of doubleheaders suddenly crop up on their schedule.

One has already been played, a two-game set against Melville this past Tuesday that saw the Express lose 1-0 and win 5-0 and improve to 10-8 on the season.

With rainouts both Thursday in Yorkton and Friday at home against Weyburn, two more twin bills are now on the horizon – first up will be the make-up game against the Cardinals in Yorkton on July 12, creating three games in two days between the teams.

The Express will then take on the Beavers for a pair of games on Aug. 4, with game one at 4 p.m. and game two at 6:35 p.m. at Ross Wells Park.

All WCBL doubleheaders are seven-inning games.

The Miller Express are tentatively back in action Saturday when they travel to Weyburn, with rain expected throughout the day throughout southern Saskatchewan.

Next home action is Sunday against the Melville Millionaires, with the special Sunday gametime of 4 p.m. at Ross Wells and the weather expected to be sunny and warm throughout the day.
