Saskatoon Hilltops QB Trey Reider named Prairie Football Conference MVP

The Prairie Football Conference crowns their 2024 champion Sunday afternoon at Saskatoon Minor Football Field.

The undefeated Saskatoon Hilltops host the Regina Thunder in a rematch of the 2023 PFC Final.

In the lead up to the game, the PFC has given out individual awards and Saskatoon quarterback Trey Reider was named the league’s most valuable player and the top offensive player.

Here are the rest of the award winners:

Coach of the Year – Tom Sargeant – Saskatoon Hilltops, second consecutive season and he led the Hilltops to an undefeated regular season and home field advantage throughout the Prairie Conference playoffs.

Outstanding Offensive Lineman – Cody Shumanski – Saskatoon Hilltops.   

Outstanding Running Back – Sadik Sadik – Regina Thunder, he led the Prairie Conference with 10 rushing touchdowns on the strength of 106 carries and 781 yards, an average of 7.4 yards per carry.

Outstanding Receiver – Drake Douglas – Saskatoon Hilltops, he led the conference in receptions (58), targets (77), receiving yards (955) and touchdowns (8) in his final season.

Outstanding Quarterback – Trey Reider – Saskatoon Hilltops, second consecutive season and he completed a conference-high 64.3 percent of his passes for 1,685 yards with 17 touchdowns plus a passer efficiency rating of 119.8.

Outstanding Defensive Lineman – Liam Sellwood – Regina Thunder, he had four solo tackles, three assisted stops and half a sack.

Outstanding Linebacker – Stephen Smith – Regina Thunder, second consecutive season and he led the Thunder with 34 solo tackles, 20 assists, 2.5 sacks, two knockdowns and intercepted a pass returning it 23 yards.

Outstanding Defensive Back – Keon Raymond – Calgary Colts, he shared the leader board with four interceptions, added 14 solo tackles, three assisted stops and four knockdowns.

Outstanding Special Teams Player – Drake Douglas – Saskatoon Hilltops, he returned 38 kicks for the Hilltops this season for 342 yards.

Offensive Rookie of the Year – OL Tristen Rapchalk – Regina Thunder.

Defensive Rookie of the Year – DL Jaedan Gayle – Calgary Colts, he had seven solo tackles, assisted on six others, 1.5 sacks, intercepted a pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown and knocked down a pass.

Most Valuable Player – Trey Reider – Saskatoon Hilltops, he completed a conference-high 64.3 percent of his passes for 1,685 yards with 17 touchdowns for a passer efficiency rating of 119.8.

Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year – Stephen Smith – Regina Thunder, second consecutive season and he led the Thunder with 34 solo tackles, 20 assists, 2.5 sacks, two knockdowns and intercepted a pass returning it 23 yards.

Outstanding Offensive Player of the Year – Trey Reider – Saskatoon Hilltops, he completed a conference-high 64.3 percent of passes for 1,685 yards with 17 touchdowns for a passer efficiency rating of 119.8.

Sunday the Saskatoon Hilltops host the Regina Thunder with the winner hosting the Canadian Junior Football League national semi-final game next weekend against the British Columbia Conference champion.
