Things are starting to get down to the nitty gritty in the Original 16 Cash League, with three of the four semifinalists determined in playoff action on Wednesday night at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre.
Regular season champion Seaborn Insurance (Joel Jordison, 16-1) didn’t have the easiest time of it against Forged 365 (Donna Ackerman, 9-8) in their quarter-final contest, but still managed to come away with a 6-4 victory.
Jordison found himself nursing a 3-2 lead after five ends, but took control of the game with two in the sixth end and a steal of one in the seventh. Ackerman got two back in the final end but would get no closer.
Second-seeded BTN Chartered Accountants (Penny Barker, 13-4) had no such difficulties in their round-of-eight match-up, with a four-spot in the first end kicking things off on their way to a 9-1 win over KMS (Ben Gamble, 9-8).
Barker followed that fast start with a steal of one in the third, and after holding Gamble to one in the fourth, added another four in the fifth end to bring things to a close.
The other quarter-final played Wednesday saw fourth-seed Easy Care Living (Lorraine Arguin, 12-5) take an 11-2 win over sixth-seed Pro-Tec Electric (11-6).
Arguin held a 3-2 lead through three ends, but a deuce in the fourth, steal of one in the fifth and steal of five in the sixth saw things come to an early end.
The other quarter-final between KalTire (Bob Desjarlais, 7-10) and Terra Grains (Ralph Courtnage, 8-9) will be played Monday.
Playoff action continues Wednesday as Seaborn Insurance takes on Easy Care Living and BTN Accountants faces the winner of KalTire and Terra Grains.
