SASKATOON -- It was a good day to be a top seed at the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association provincial girls basketball championships on Saturday.
All five of the one seeds emerged with their respective provincial titles at Hoopla 2025 in Saskatoon.
In the 1A girls provincial tournament, Preeceville had little difficulty in their two contests, taking a 95-44 win over four-seed Kerrobert before downing three-seed Foam Lake 67-40 in the gold medal game.
All but one of Preeceville’s players hit the scoresheet in the final, with Lexi Prouse scoring 13 points, Maggie Bartel 11 and Tess Covin 10. Vivian Beaudoin accounted for half of Foam Lake’s offence with a 20-point outing.
Foam Lake advanced to the final with a 53-37 win over two-seed Kenaston.
Kenaston defeated Kerrobert 60-48 to win bronze.
St. Brieux looked like they were on their way to enduring an upset in the 2A girls final after falling behind 21-12 to two-seed Wilkie at halftime, but they’d find another gear after the break and go on to a 49-47 win.
Love Mariano and Riona Dar each scored 13 points to lead St. Brieux, while Morgan Stevens had 12. Cheyanne Cey topped Wilkie with 21 points, Alara Lang scored 10.
St. Brieux reached the title game with a 57-51 win over four-seed Southey, Wilkie defeated three-seed Norquay 60-59 in their semifinal.
Norquay claimed bronze with a 70-55 win over Southey.
Wynyard didn’t leave much to chance in the 3A girls tournament, taking a pair of double-digit victories, including a 69-53 win over two-seed Indian Head in the gold medal game.
Blair Otsig topped Wynyard with 17 points in the final, Riley Chepil and Taylor Chepil each scored 12 to go along with 11 from Olivia Finnson. Chloe Clark scored 12 for Indian Head, Jayna Blayone 10 and Autumn Casper nine.
Wynyard booked their final spot with a 67-51 win over Regina Christian, Indian Head defeated Lanigan 84-63.
Lanigan won bronze thanks to a 66-52 win over Regina Christian.
Regina Harvest City also had a relatively comfortable run to the title in the 4A girls draw, downing four-seed Moose Jaw Vanier 80-48 in their semifinal and taking a 69-59 win over Meadow Lake to win gold.
Severyn Ferrara Horne led Regina with 21 points against Meadow Lake, with Kai-Lynn Clive right behind with 20. Jael Wells scored 16 and Kiana Towle 12. Jasmine Dubray led Carpenter with 16 points, Ezri Vidal scored 12 and Vivie Lavallee 12.
Meadow Lake reached the final with a 50-34 win over Moose Jaw Central.
Vanier took a 61-48 victory over Central in the bronze medal game.
Regina LeBoldus was the absolute class of the 5A girls tournament, winning all three of their games by 20 or more points.
That included an 83-45 win over Prince Albert Carlton in the quarter-final, 79-59 win over four-seed Regina Miller in the semifinal and 81-59 win over three-seed Swift Current in the gold medal game.
Hayden Kot led LeBoldus with 22 points in the final, with Tatum Milligan scoring 21, Sasha Onion 14 and Neko Michell 12. Sarah Neustaeter topped Swift Current with 16 points, Kylee Michaluk added 13.
The Ardens advanced to the gold medal game thanks to a 75-52 win over six-seed Saskatoon St. Joseph and 59-48 win over seven-seed Regina Winston Knoll, who upset two-seed Saskatoon Walter Murray 72-71 in the first round.
Miller defeated Winston Knoll 72-55 to win bronze, Holy Cross downed Walter Murray 85-59 to win the consolation side.
