TORONTO — York 9 FC has signed former Canadian youth international defender Luca Gasparotto.
The 23-year-old returns to Toronto after five years and more than 100 appearances in Scotland with Glasgow Rangers, Falkirk and, most recently, Greenock Morton.
"He's good on the ball, can distribute the ball well as well," York 9 head coach Jim Brennan said in a statement. "Very vocal, commanding centre back ... We can't wait to see what he'll bring to us."
Gasparotto left Ontario for Rangers in 2011, making his first appearance in 2013. He was later loaned to Stirling Albion, Airdrieonians and Greenock before joining second-tier Falkirk in 2016.
Gasparotto made 11 appearances for second-tier Greenock in 2017-2018.
Gasparotto has represented Canada at the under-17, under-20 and under-23 levels. He was called up to the senior squad during a World Cup qualifier against Belize in 2015.
Gasparotto is York's 17th signing ahead of the inaugural Canadian Premier League season.
