David Antonenko
1947 – 2024
David Paul Antonenko was born on March 20, 1946, in Verwood, Saskatchewan to Paul and Dora (nee Gaftonyk) Antonenko and passed away suddenly on January 13, 2024 at the age of 76 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan.
David grew up in the Crane Valley/Moose Jaw area and completed his education in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. He was a talented musician, and loved playing guitar, accordion and piano. David was also a skilled tradesman and farmer. From a young age David loved driving and fixing tractors and farming. He spent the majority of his life running the family farm ensuring all grain processes and equipment ran smoothly. There wasn’t a big machine David could not fix. When David wasn’t fixing or farming, he could be found fishing, hunting and spending time with friends and family. David loved playing cards, crib, Yahtzee and never passed up a good crossword puzzle or word search.
In 1997 David married his lifelong sweetheart Mary (nee Andrews). Together the two moved to Estevan where David continued fixing things until his retirement in 2013. David enjoyed retirement and spent most days by Mary’s side, visiting family, doting on his three granddaughters and with his dogs Dudley and Bailey until suffering a stroke and moving to Tatagwa View in Weyburn.
David was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was a great friend to many and will be sadly missed by anyone who had the privilege to be a part of his life.
David was predeceased by his father Paul in 1976; mother Dora in 1996; daughter Judy in 1996; sister Louise in 2020; and wife Mary in 2023.
David will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Carla (Todd); granddaughters, Tyrae (Tyler), Zabrina (Nick) and Nakita; great grandchildren, Arianna and Grayson; sisters, Anne and Brenda; niece Angela and nephew Gene, as well as many cousins and close friends.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. at the Eagles Club (small hall), 561 Home Street W., Moose Jaw, Sask.
