Garratt (Garry) Hubbard

Garratt Hubbard of Avonlea, SK, died on October 6, 2019 surrounded by family. Garry was born April 26, 1925, and grew up on a farm west of Truax, SK. He attended Moorefield School, and did high school in Milestone at the House of the Good Shepherd. In 1943 he joined the RCAF. He saw active duty with the 115 Squadron Bomber Command as a tail gunner stationed at Witchford, England. After returning home from the war and exploring various career and work options, he decided to farm. In 1948 he married the love of his life Alice. They moved to their farm south of Avonlea and it was there they raised their six children. Garry was devoted to his family, his friends, his community, and his church. He was often heard to say, “We are here to help one another.” He will be sadly missed by many. Garry was predeceased by his wife Alice, son Donald, grandson Craig, parents Annie and Frank, brothers Jack and Bert and sister Kathleen. He is survived by his children Larry (Karen), Tim (Patricia), Annette (James) Cowan, Kerry (Ruth) and Dean (Tracy); brothers Tom, Jim (Dorothy) and sister Dora Mills; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Memorial Donations to the Avonlea & District Heritage Museum, P.O. Box 401, Avonlea, SK, S0H 0C0 or to Wounded Warriors Canada, 310 Byron St. South, Suite 4, Whitby, ON, L1N 4P8 would be appreciated. There will be a Memorial Service on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Aidan Anglican Church, 124 1st Ave NE, Moose Jaw, SK, with The Right Reverend James Cowan officiating. In living memory of Garry, a memorial tree planting will be made by Jones-Parkview Funeral Chapel.
