LUTHER, FRANCES

Frances Dorothy Luther was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan June 6, 1952.  She passed peacefully with family by her side on February 9, 2020. Frances was raised on the family farm at Cardross and attended Crane Valley School for K-12.  Upon graduation, she attended the University of Regina obtaining her Bachelor of Education.  She taught in both Esterhazy and Raymore schools and in Northern AB at Chateh.  She received her Master of Library Information Science after attending the University of Alberta. Frances had developed a diverse background living and teaching on Indian reservations.  This served her well in writing her dissertation which she completed to receive her PHd in Library Science from the University of Saskatchewan. Frances worked 4 years as lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse.  From there she went to Denver, working as a lecturer at the University of Colorado for 3 years and then to Baltimore where she worked 18 years as lecturer at the University of Towson.  She retired in the summer 2019 and moved home to Saskatchewan where her family was happy to have her close for these past months. As a girl, Frances worked at various camps and also spent time working on the family farm.  She was a member of the Big Sisters Organization during her time in the States, mentoring underprivileged girls.  She had a heart for kids without opportunity and made a difference in many lives. Frances loved to travel, see different parts of the world, try new things and share these experiences with lucky family members.  During her summers off, she spoke at conferences around the world, including Papua New Guinea, Estonia and the United States.  She came home to Canada every summer to spend time with her family while renewing her visa.  She enjoyed time at Waskesui with nieces and nephews and attended the Quest Camp at Christopher Lake. Frances was an educator at heart, using her experiences as teaching moments.  She was a captivating story teller and loved to read and sing with her “grandkids” (grand nieces and nephews). Frances was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Dorothy Luther and is survived by her sister and brothers:  Carrie (Ron) Ubell, William (Carol) Luther and Marvin (Connie) Luther, nieces: Rhonda (Rod) Dressler, Braeden, Dawson & Katelyn, Carissa (Duane) Neudorf, Damian (Emily), Donovan, Cameron & Denaya, Jeanine (Ryan) Janzen, Dylan, Carson, Kaydra & Harper, Charity (Joe) Krahn & Lucy, Marcy (Brandon) Duncan, Macy, Tanner, Prestyn, Matea & Gabriele, Cassia (Jeremy) Luther Ruban, Caebri, Addison & Joelle, Bethany Luther, Melanie (Chantelle) Luther and a nephew: Dean (Aaron) Ubell, Rhyen & Brooklyn. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude for the excellent care from staff at the Pasqua Hospital, Elmview Extendicare and especially Grace Hospice.  Your care and kindness for Frances and all of us will always be cherished. A Celebration of Life Fellowship Luncheon will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St W., Moose Jaw.  Interment to follow at 3:00PM at Sunset Cemetery.  For those so wishing, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regina Wascana Grace Hospice.
