With deep sorrow the family of Laura Mae Marchessault announces her passing, unexpectedly at home, on December 31, 2024, at the age of 62 years. She was born in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan on December 10, 1962, and spent the majority of her life in Moose Jaw.
Laura knew the value and the enjoyment of a task well done having worked hard, from a young teenager in her parents’ business and through her adult life. She spent a significant period of time working at the Officer’s Mess, 15 Wing Moose Jaw and at Extendicare care home from where she retired.
She was integral to so many shared experiences making them “family” experiences where working together and the time spent was the greatest reward of all. From making sausage with her kids, siblings, Mom and Dad, for many years after the family business closed to baking enormous batches of bread and providing beautiful meals for all the special occasions or just because it was family time.
Laura gave all to those she loved whether it was her time, home, advice or just a listening ear. There were the countless sporting events and life milestones she attended for her children and her grandchildren. You always knew you’d find her in a lawn chair at the ball diamonds with a bag of sunflower seeds and lots of encouragement. She was “Mom” to many, many people who needed a shoulder to lean on and a hand up in life.
Predeceased by her father Jim Marchessault. Laura will be deeply missed by her mother Donna, daughter Tamara Bennett (James); son Dustin Mercer; daughter Tamara Marchessault; brother Brent Marchessault (Diann); sister Vanese Marchessault Ferguson (John); grandchildren Alex, Mariah, Michael, Hunter and Liam; nieces and nephew Carmine, Dean and Jill; aunt and close friend Ellen Richard (Ron) as well as many cherished aunts, uncles and, cousins. A Celebration of Life and interment will be held in Moose Jaw at a later date.
From Laura herself comes the best description of how she will be remembered in the hearts of those who loved her most. “I’m not a perfect Mom or Nana, but I hope my kids and grandkids know that I love them with everything I’ve got. They’re my world. My happy place. My today. My tomorrow. My life!”
