Eileen Quick
Eileen passed away peacefully at Dr F. H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw on November 14, 2020 at the age of 93 years. She was born April 29, 1927 to William and Emily Scott in Thackeray, SK. She was predeceased by Jack, her loving husband of 55 years. Eileen’s memory will be cherished by her children Judy (Roger) Piche of Moose Jaw, David of Edmonton, Shirley (Eamonn Crosby) of Northampton, England, Joan of Burnaby; and her granddaughters Carolyn (Dustin) of Moose Jaw, Amy (David) of Saskatoon, Ciara (Romain) of Barcelona, Spain and Jenny of London, England. Great-grandchildren Rowan and Quinn of Moose Jaw will grow up hearing stories of their amazing great-grandma. She is also remembered by her brother-in-law William Quick of Regina and sister-in-law Lydia Scott of Vernon, as well as nephews and nieces. Eileen had fond memories of growing up on a farm with her brother Hugh and sister Tillie. She attended Normal School in Saskatoon where she received her teaching certificate at the age of 19. After teaching at numerous schools throughout the province with her childhood friend Doris (Colville) Bessie, Eileen married Jack Quick of Senlac and they raised their family in Unity. For many years, she was a devoted mother to her children. Eileen was delighted to return to teaching at Unity Public School, and proudly earned a Bachelor of Education degree at the age of 56. She was not only a teacher, she was a lifelong learner. Eileen was a friend to many people, young and old, showing a genuine interest in their lives. She explored many places, but treasured most the time spent with family and friends. In Unity, she was part of a wonderful neighborhood of families who supported each other and had fun together — friendships that have continued to this day. She was actively involved with Unity United Church, Unity Music Festival and, in later years, New Horizons and her retired teachers’ association. Eileen and Jack travelled near and far, and truly enjoyed each other’s company. Great times were spent at their cabin at Pelican Point, and later at Trevessa Beach. There was always room for one more place at the table and another sleeping bag on the floor. When Eileen and Jack moved from their house in Unity to Luther Place, they embraced a new lifestyle and community. Then four years ago, Eileen moved from Unity to Moose Jaw so she could be near her daughter Judy’s family. While missing her beloved friends from Unity, she welcomed yet another new chapter in her life. At West Park Crossing, Eileen became involved in activities, played cribbage and Scrabble, and shared her love of music by playing tunes on the piano. And, once again, family and friends were always welcome in her home, for a meal and a visit. A private family Memorial Service was held at Minto United Church with Rev. Linda Tomlinson-Seebach officiating. The family would like to extend gratitude to the staff at West Park Crossing for their years of kindness and dedicated support. Heartfelt thanks also go to Dr Haver for his compassion and expertise over the last four years with the assistance of his professional team. The family also is sincerely grateful for the staff at Dr F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for their thoughtful and attentive care. A Celebration of Life is planned for Eileen in Unity at a later date.
