That noise you hear during Montreal Alouettes home games is fans blasting air horns to disrupt the opposing team.

"Are they even legal? I just want to know," Saskatchewan Roughriders' receiver Samuel Emilus joked on The SportsCage.

According to the Als' code of conduct: "Fans are not permitted to use instruments with high decibel levels that will disrupt their fellow spectators."

Emilus was born in Montreal, Quebec and enjoyed watching the Alouettes as a kid.

"I was faithfully watching every game on TV," Emilus recalled. "When I started watching, they were winning. There was a time when they had a dynasty with Anthony Calvillo,  S.J. Green, Avon Cobourne and Ben Cahoon."

The Green and White travel to Montreal for a match-up against the Als in Week 9 this coming season. Since entering the league in 2022, Emilus has an 0-3 record in his CFL career playing in La Belle Province.

"We played there three times and we lost all three," Emilus said. "Definitely this year, something will have to change. I like playing there because I have family and friends coming to the game. It's my hometown, so it's always a good experience."

During the last two CFL seasons, the Riders have played the Alouettes three times. Saskatchewan lost 41-12 during Week 10 in 2023 and the next two games in 2024, the Roughriders lost 20-16 and 27-24.

Meanwhile, Regina hosted the 2025 CFL Combine from March 21 through 23 and Emilus gave advice for prospects going through the CFL Draft process.

"Be yourself. Don't change because it's coaches and scouts talking to you," Emilus said. "It's an opportunity that not everybody has. Enjoy the whole process and have fun with it."

Emilus' experience preparing for the CFL Combine made him excited and nervous.

"You work a month-and-a-half, two months, waiting for that one day to get ready and show up in front of the scouts," Emilus explained. "It's definitely nerve-wracking, but once you're done with your day, it's like a monkey off your back. To say the least, it was a good experience. It's only happened one time and I'm glad it's in the past."

Saskatchewan selected Emilus in the first round, seventh overall during the 2022 CFL Draft. He suited up for nines games as a rookie, recording 10 receptions for 165 yards. In the next two seasons, he increased his production and went over 1,000 yards each year. In 2023, the six-foot, 200-pound pass catcher totalled 1,097 yards and in 2024 he finished with 1,064.

The 27-year-old Emilus believes the bond between the Green and White receivers have is special.

"We know that at one point the ball will come our way and we're going to make something with it," Emilus said.

"We are a big, unselfish group -- nobody complains about getting the ball. They know that I have the utmost confidence in the guy beside me. It's not about having one ball, it's about bringing that one ball to the goal line."
