Holland and Schneider both improved to 4-0 through the round robin with victories in the afternoon draw at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre, as Holland took an 8-4 win over Regina’s Stasia Wisniewski and Schneider rolled to a 10-3 win over Regina’s Stephanie Schmidt.
Both rinks have local connections -- Holland hails from Moose Jaw and is a former provincial champion in both the junior and women’s ranks; Schneider played second for Penny Barker’s 2017 Scotties provincial champions.
Things also look promising for Skylar Ackerman’s junior foursome, as they picked up a 7-5 victory over Deanna Doig, skipping for Barker, in the afternoon draw to improve to 2-2 and hold down third place in Pool A, tied with Wisniewski. Weyburn’s Jade Bloor is in second at 3-1. Doig sits at 1-3.
Regina’s Sherrilee Orsted -- including Candace Newkirk of Moose Jaw at third -- sits in third place in Pool B at 2-2 after taking a win over Regina’s Michelle Englot. Lorraine Arguin’s Moose Jaw rink sits at 1-3.
The top three teams from each pool advance to the playoff round, with second and third place crossing over and playing in the quarter-final Sunday morning, followed by the winner there facing the first place pool teams in the semifinal at 12:30 p.m. The championship final is slated for 4 p.m.
Teams are competing for Provincial Team Ranking System points, which will decide qualifiers for the Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts in the new year.
