KINDERSLEY -- Jolene Campbell has had a successful run thus far at the Viterra Prairie PInnacle provincial women’s curling championship, and that continued in the playoffs on Saturday night.

Campbell and her rink of third Rachel Erickson, second Abby Ackland and lead Dayna Demmans advanced to the championship final with a 9-2 win over Saskatoon Nutana’s Nancy Martin, third Chaelynn Kitz, second Kadriana Lott and lead Deanna Doig in the Page Playoff 1-2 game.

Campbell had advanced to the contest after finishing in first place in the round robin with a 7-1 record, one win ahead of Martin.

The Regina Highland foursome got off to a great start, with deuces in the second and fifth ends leading to a 5-1 lead at the break. A steal in the sixth made it a five-point Campbell lead, and after Martin got one back in the seventh, a three-spot in the eighth would bring things to an early end.

Martin now drops down to the semifinal and will face Saskatoon’s Ashley Thevenot at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Thevenot and her Nutana foursome of third Brittany Tran, second Taylor Stremick and lead Kaylin Skinner advanced to the semi with an 8-5 win over Moose Jaw’s Penny Barker, third Lindsay Bertsch, second Taryn Schachtel and lead Danielle Sicinski in the Page 3-4 game.

Things were back and forth early in the contest, with the game tied 3-3 through four ends, but a Thevenot deuce in the fifth would give her control heading into the latter half of the contest. The teams would exchange single points the next four ends, and Thevenot would steal in the 10th to secure the victory.

The winner of the semifinal will advance to face Campbell for the Viterra Prairie Pinnacle championship at 3 p.m. Sunday, with the contest streamed live on the Curl Sask YouTube page.
