MOOSE JAW — The City of Moose Jaw has announced details of the 2025 paved roadways program.
The program will include the rehabilitation of approximately four kilometres of roadways at the following locations:
- 13th Avenue Northwest from Montgomery Street to Grace Street
- 16th Avenue Southwest from Coteau Street West to Vaughan Street
- Fourth Avenue Northwest from Caribou Street West to Ominica Street West
- Main Street North, southbound from River Street to Manitoba Street
- Main Street North, west alley from River Street to Manitoba Street
- Coteau Street West from 11th Avenue Southwest to 12th Avenue Southwest
- First Avenue Northwest from Saskatchewan Street West to MacDonald Street
- Thatcher Drive East from Ninth Avenue Northeast to Highway 1
- Ninth Avenue Northwest from railway south of Normandy Drive to Highway 1
In addition to road rehabilitation, the paved roadways program includes other services such as replacement and renewal of sidewalks, curbs and gutters.
Other capital projects that the city plans to pursue this year include:
- Updating signalized intersection at Second Avenue Northeast and Manitoba Street East. This involves updating the physical infrastructure and electrical components, as well as geometrical redesign to enhance vehicular and pedestrian movements at this intersection
- Upgrading sanitary lift stations at 11th Avenue Northwest and High Street West. The first improvement involves installing a Cummins natural gas standby power generator, while the second improvement involves an upgraded grinder pump for the lift station
- Demolishing the Coteau Street East bridge; this should start in the fall
- Replacing a storm sewer culvert at Fourth Avenue Northwest and Laurier Street West with three 1,800-millimetre diameter high-density polyethylene (HDPE) culverts and relocating the eastern-most Greensway Condominium entrance from Laurier Street West to Fourth Avenue Northwest. This should greatly improve flow conveyance of Spring Creek and reduce flooding through this area of the city
- Performing a condition assessment of the wastewater treatment plant, which should provide information about maintenance schedules and cost estimates for future venue maintenance and replacement requirements and budget allocations
- Creating a master plan for Spring Creek to provide a mitigation strategy to reduce the regional flood inundation along Spring Creek
- Continuing and completing a slope monitoring program
- Completing minor rehabilitation to several bridges within the city and upgrading the safety railing under the Second Avenue Southeast subway crossing
- Relocating excess construction/development cut material from several sites within the city to a designated area east of the existing landfill to use as cover material during the decommission and reclamation process of the existing landfill
