Regina Police have laid charges against two individuals after investigation into the death of a two-year-old last month deemed a homicide.
On June 9, police and emergency responders responded to a residence where a two-year-old girl had reportedly been seriously injured after falling down some stairs.
The girl was taken to hospital by EMS, later transported to Saskatoon by air, and passed due to her injuries on June 13.
Investigation by the Regina Children’s Justice Centre, which includes police and social workers, and the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service determined the incident was a homicide case.
Brittney Burghardt, 26, of Regina and Justin Anderson, 24, of Regina have been arrested by police as a result of a criminal investigation.
Burghardt has been charged with second-degree murder, and Anderson with accessory after the fact. Both individuals are also facing a charge of forcible confinement.
Burghardt and Anderson made their first appearance in provincial court on Thursday morning.
