Every once in awhile during a long hockey season, you're going to have a night where you carry the play from start to finish and still find yourself in a tight contest.
For the Moose Jaw Warriors, Friday night in Swift Current was one of those cases. Despite outshooting the Broncos 37-13 in the contest, it wasn't until late in the third period that Brayden Tracey scored the eventual game winning goal in a 4-2 Warriors victory.
The Warriors improved to 32-16-6-2 to remain seven points up on Brandon for third place in the Western Hockey League's East Division.
Swift Current's Ethan Regnier opened scoring just over five minutes into the game before Justin Almeida responded on the power play for the Warriors.
Tristin Langan continued his march toward 50 goals with his 42nd of the season with 6:38 remaining in the second period, but the lead would only last a couple of minutes before Tanner Nagel tied things for Swift Current.
That set the stage for Tracey, who finished off a brilliant passing combination from Almeida and Josh Brook with 6:46 left in regulation to put Moose Jaw ahead 3-2. Tracey added an empty netter with 17 seconds left to close out scoring.
Brodan Salmond got the win in goal, Riley Lamb took the loss for Swift Current.
The Warriors were 3-for-4 on the power play, Swift Current was 2-for-3.
Next action for the Tribe is this afternoon against the Regina Pats with a special early start time of 2:30 p.m.
