It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved William “Willie” Albert Anderson who passed away peacefully in the early morning of Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, with loved ones by his side.

Willie was born in McCord, Saskatchewan on March 9th, 1951. He was a preemie so spent his first days bundled in a shoe box placed in the oven to keep warm. He was the second born of 3 sons for Bill and Marie. The family later moved to Moose Jaw, SK in 1955.

Growing up on South Hill was the beginning of many life-long friendships. One of those wonderful friendships was the love of his life, Lynda Merrifield, who Willie met in grade 10 at Riverview High School. The high school sweethearts married in 1973 and grew their family with their two children, Breigh and Scott. They enjoyed over 30 years together, making many wonderful memories.

Willie started his career at Valley View Centre pushing broom, and with dedication, hard work, and higher education, he worked his way to being a Registered Psychiatric Nurse and Nursing Supervisor. Willie loved his work and the people he worked with. He retired from Valley View in 2006.

Everyone who knew Willie, knew he loved people and social gatherings. He made everyone he met feel special and he truly loved and appreciated all the people who came into his life. Willie had a huge circle of friends, many whom have been friends since childhood. Willie loved his friends like family, and they knew it.

Willie’s pride and joy was his five grandchildren. As a doting grampa, he attended numerous soccer and football games, dance recitals, sacraments, and anything else his precious grandchildren were doing.

The second great love of his life was the lake. Buffalo Pound Lake was his happy place. He spent much of his life at his cabins and loved having many fun gatherings with friends and family. He whole-heartedly agreed with his oldest grandson, who at the age of three declared the lake was “the greatest place in the galaxy!”.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lynda; and parents, Bill and Marie Anderson. Willie’s spirit lives on in his children, Breigh (Rob) and Scott (Laurie); grandchildren: Rhys, Jaxon, Ryleigh, Emyree, and Kooper; brothers, Wayne (Dianne) and Rod (Lynda); brother-in-law, Stan (Maureen) Merrifield; lifelong friend, Randy Wetaski; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A Celebration of Willie’s Life will be held on Tuesday, February 13th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home. Those not able to attend may view the service virtually by going to www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/webcast/. Following the celebration, please join us for a come-and-go fellowship at the Anavets Hall located at 279 High St, Moose Jaw, SK. In lieu of flowers, Willie would like you to pour yourself your favourite beverage and dance to your favourite song, toasting to life and remembering you are here for a good time, not a long time. Memorial donations to the Canadian Lung Association would also be graciously appreciated. Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.
