HUNTER

Delmar “Del” Hunter, 89, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday, December 25, 2024.  Del was born on June 4, 1935, in Kincaid, SK. The 8th of 15 children born to Robert and Ruth Hunter.

Del had a long career with Sasktel that he really enjoyed. He met new folks everyday and never met anyone he couldn’t have a great chat with. He retired in 1991 and had many years to enjoy the activities that he loved.

He and Shirley were all over Saskatchewan with their camper van, visiting and exploring every small town and village, meeting new people and seeing the sights.

Family came first for Del, family vacations and trips to brothers and sister’s homes to catch up and enjoy each other. Del absolutely loved his grandchildren and spending time with them. He never missed a game or an event and was over the moon when his great granddaughter arrived. Never more then a phone call away, Del was right there to help fix something, build something, or give you a ride. Del had the biggest heart, most generous spirit, a quick warm smile, and a firm handshake to greet everyone.

Recognized by many folks around town, Del could be found at different coffee rows around town, McDonalds, Tim Horton’s and Smitty’s in the mall where his usual spots. Del lived a great life, from stooking wheat and leaving school after 6th grade to help the family, to recently taking on the Iphone for a couple days before he returned it for a familiar flip phone. Many triumphs and mountain tops through the years with some valley’s of sorrow. Del embraced it all with a brave heart and a gentle spirit, teaching everyone that life is always worth living with a smile on your face.

Del was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Shirley; son, Randy; parents, Robert and Ruth Hunter; sisters, Barbra and Marion; brothers, Robert, John, Lorne and Willie; and second wife, Joan; sisters in law: Latifie (Sue), Bev and Donna; brothers in law: Hank Witkowski, Tom Pytel, Johnny Mokry and Tom Slavin.
