Joerg "Joe" Ernst Jonat
October 31, 1954- March 7, 2025

After a short, hard fought battle with cancer, Joerg "Joe " Ernst Jonat slipped away on March 7, 2025, surrounded by his dearest friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Dianne in 2024 and his parents. Joe is survived by his son Adam; his brother Harold (Dawn) and their family; lifelong friends Rick and Wendy and Dave and Trish and their families; dear friends John and Olive as well as many close neighbourhood friends across this country and beyond.

Born in East Germany, Joe spent his childhood years in Sydney, Australia and his teens in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Here Joe began his career with the CAF Army Corps of Engineers. As Joe quipped "I came for lunch and stayed for life." CFB postings included Alert, Comox, Chilliwack, Borden and Moose Jaw. His trade took him to jobs throughout North America and the Caribbean. He also did UN postings to Cyprus and the Golan Heights. After retirement from the military in 2003, Joe worked for the Regina Airport Authority.

During his posting to Comox, Joe met his wife, Dianne. Although it was not 'love at first sight', they married in 1983 and began family life with the arrival of Adam in 1984.

In 2008, they retired to Moose Jaw where they became a valued couple in their neighbourhood. During his retirement, Joe kept busy walking (5-10 miles per day), reading for enjoyment and enrichment, computers and all things technical- he was our go-to guy when anyone needed help. In later years they enjoyed cruising and visiting with their many friends. But foremost for Joe was always his wife and son.

After receiving his cancer diagnosis, Joe stated "I have had quite the ride- no regrets".

Family and friends would like to thank his doctors and the nursing staff on the 3rd floor of the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital for their exemplary care during his illness.

A celebration of his life will be held on May 31, 2025, at his home. In living memory of Joerg, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Ltd. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries). Dayna Chamberlain- Funeral Director
